¹⁶ He told the woman, “I’ll greatly increase the pain of your labor during childbirth. It will be painful for you to bear children, “since your trust is turning toward your husband, and he will dominate you.”

¹ The Seventh DayWith this the heavens and the earth were completed, including all of their vast array. ² By the seventh day God had completed the work he had been doing, so on the seventh day he stopped working on everything that he had done. ³ Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God stopped working on everything that he had been creating.
⁴ Humans in the GardenThese are the records of the universe at its creation. The fourth river is the Euphrates.
¹⁵ The LORD God took the man and placed him in the Garden of Eden in order to have him work it and guard it. ¹⁶ The LORD God commanded the man: “You may freely eat from every tree of the garden, ¹⁷ but you are not to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, because you will certainly die during the day that you eat from it.”
¹⁸ The Creation of the WomanLater, the LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make the woman to be an authority corresponding to him.” ¹⁹ After the LORD God formed from the ground every wild animal and every bird that flies, he brought each of them to the man to see what he would call it. Whatever the man called each living creature became its name. ²⁰ The man gave names to all the livestock, to the birds that fly, and to each of earth’s animals, but there was not found a strength corresponding to him, ²¹ so the LORD God caused a deep sleep to overshadow the man.
When the man was asleep, he removed one of the man’s ribs and closed up the flesh where it had been. ²² Then the LORD God formed the rib that he had taken from the man into a woman and brought her to the man. ²³ So the man exclaimed, “At last! This is bone from my bones and flesh from my flesh. This one will be called ‘Woman,’ because she was taken from Man.”
²⁴ (Therefore a man will leave his father and his mother and cling to his wife, and they will become one flesh.) ²⁵ Even though both the man and his wife were naked, they were not ashamed about it.

³ Advice about Head CoveringsNow I want you to realize that the Messiah is the head of every man, and man is the head of the woman, and God is the head of the Messiah.

²² Wives and HusbandsWives, submit yourselves to your husbands as to the Lord.

² Therefore, an elder must be blameless, the husband of one wife, stable, sensible, respectable, hospitable to strangers, and teachable.

⁸ For man did not come from woman, but woman from man;

¹⁵ even though she will be saved through the birth of the Child, if they continue in faith, love, and holiness, along with good judgment.

³ Likewise, older women are to show their reverence for God by their behavior. They are not to be gossips or addicted to alcohol, but to be examples of goodness. ⁴ They should encourage the younger women to love their husbands, to love their children, ⁵ to be sensible and pure, to manage their households, to be kind, and to submit themselves to their husbands. Otherwise, the word of God may be discredited.

³ Advice about Head CoveringsNow I want you to realize that the Messiah is the head of every man, and man is the head of the woman, and God is the head of the Messiah. ⁴ Every man who prays or prophesies with something on his head dishonors his head, ⁵ and every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head, which is the same as having her head shaved. ⁶ So if a woman does not cover her head, she should cut off her hair. If it is a disgrace for a woman to cut off her hair or shave her head, let her cover her own head.
⁷ A man should not cover his head, because he exists as God’s image and glory. But the woman is man’s glory. ⁸ For man did not come from woman, but woman from man; ⁹ and man was not created for woman, but woman for man. ¹⁰ This is why a woman should have authority over her own head: because of the angels.
¹¹ In the Lord, however, woman is not independent of man, nor is man of woman. ¹² For as woman came from man, so man comes through woman. But everything comes from God. ¹³ Decide for yourselves: Is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered? ¹⁴ Nature itself teaches you neither that it is disgraceful for a man to have long hair ¹⁵ nor that hair is a woman’s glory, since hair is given as a substitute for coverings. ¹⁶ But if anyone wants to argue about this, we do not have any custom like this, nor do any of God’s churches.
¹⁷ Concerning the Lord’s Supper
Now I am not praising you in giving you the following instructions. When you gather, it is not for the better but for the worse. ¹⁸ For in the first place, I hear that when you gather as a church there are divisions among you, and I partly believe it. ¹⁹ Of course, there must be factions among you to show which of you are genuine!
²⁰ When you gather in the same place, it is not to eat the Lord’s Supper. ²¹ For as you eat, each of you rushes to eat his own supper, and one person goes hungry while another gets drunk. ²² You have homes in which to eat and drink, don’t you? Or do you despise God’s church and humiliate those who have nothing? What should I say to you? Should I praise you? I will not praise you for this!
²³ For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you—how the Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took a loaf of bread, ²⁴ gave thanks for it, and broke it in pieces, saying, “This is my body that is for you. Keep doing this in memory of me.” ²⁵ He did the same with the cup after the supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. As often as you drink from it, keep doing this in memory of me.” ²⁶ For as often as you eat this bread and drink from this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.
²⁷ Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks from the cup in an unworthy manner will be held responsible for the Lord’s body and blood. ²⁸ A person must examine himself and then eat the bread and drink from the cup, ²⁹ because whoever eats and drinks without recognizing the body, eats and drinks judgment on himself. ³⁰ That’s why so many of you are weak and sick and a considerable number are dying. ³¹ But if we judged ourselves correctly, we would not be judged. ³² Now, while we are being judged by the Lord, we are being disciplined so we won’t be condemned along with the world.
³³ Therefore, my brothers, when you gather to eat, wait for each other. ³⁴ If anyone is hungry, he should eat at home, so that when you gather it may not bring judgment on you. And when I come I will give instructions concerning the other matters.

¹² Moreover, in the area of teaching, I am not allowing a woman to instigate conflict toward a man. Instead, she is to remain calm.

³⁴ the women must keep silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak out, but must place themselves in submission, as the oral law also says.
